Location: County Buildings, Ayr

Educational Achievement & Quality Development is one of three sections in the Department of Education, Culture and Lifelong Learning.

The section comprises educational development staff, pupil support staff, psychologists and administrative support and also includes a number of seconded staff from schools. Development officers have individual responsibilities for 5-14 curriculum, secondary curriculum, Parent Councils, continuing professional development for teachers, special educational needs and inclusion, probationer teachers, pupil support, links with further and higher education. Most officers also have additional responsibilities in the area of quality development.

The work of the service is to secure improvement in schools through providing continuing professional development for teaching and support staff, developing all aspects of the curriculum and providing additional support needs, including psychological support, where necessary.

Section staff manage the deployment of a significant number of school support staff such as special education needs auxiliaries and peripatetic learning support staff. Responsibilities of the service also include New Community Schools, National Grid for Learning, Scottish Qualifications Authority, Dolphin House, Education at Home and International Links among others.
