South Ayrshire Council - Departmental Structure
The Council employs some 5,700 staff and has a Senior Management Structure comprising the Chief Executive, Depute Chief Executive and 3 Departmental Directors. The Departments and their individual areas of responsibility are as follows:-
Development, Safety and Regulation
Responsible for Planning, Building Standards, Roads and Transportation, Sustainable Development including strategic responsibility for the development of Waste Management and Parks and Open Spaces, Trading Standards, Environmental Health, legal and Licensing Services, Corporate Safety including Health and Safety, Emergency Planning, Occupational Health and Risk and Insurance, Roads Maintenance, Community Safety including anti-social behaviour and Community Support Offices, Neighbourhood Services incorporating operational responsibilities for Grants Maintenance, Waste Management and Cleansing. The council's Estates function, Fleet Management, Enterprise, Rural Development, Funding and Registration and Bereavement Services
Education, Culture and Lifelong Learning
Responsible for all aspects of Education, including Quality and Service Development, Pre-five Services, Primary, Secondary, Special and Nursery Schools, Community Education, Libraries, Museums, Art Galleries, Culture and Lifelong Learning.
Social Work, Housing and Health
Responsible for Social Work, Social Justice, Community Care, Housing, Children's Services, Criminal Justice Social Work, Housing and Partnerships with Health Services, Housing Providers and the independent sector. Transportation,

Roads Maintenance and Policy,
Roads Related Structures,
Street Lighting,
Asset Management,
Property Maintenance and Construction,
Architectural and Technical Services,
Quantity Surveying Services,
Contract Management.
In addition, the Chief Executive's Department is responsible for providing a range of multi disciplinary skills to Elected Members, the Chief Executive and Directors including Strategy, Policy Development, Communication and Research facilities, Information Communication Technology, Financial Services and Human Resources.
