Business Plan

Overall Aim

The Council’s overall aim is to deliver effective, responsive & accessible services in partnership with others to improve the quality of life within South Ayrshire.

Our priorities

To take forward this overall aim, we have identified five priorities that will direct the Council’s work over the next three years. They are to create:

What we mean by each of these statements, and what we intend to do to make a difference to the current position in South Ayrshire, is set out in the remainder of this Plan.

Our Principles

In addition to its priorities, the Council has identified a number of principles that set out how it intends to approach its commitments. These reflect policies adopted by the Council over a number of years and also demonstrate its commitment to deliver Best Value. They are:

  • Working in partnership

We are committed to working with other services, partners and the local community to develop effective ‘joined-up’ responses to the issues faced by our local area. An example of how this is being taken forward is through the development of the Community Planning Partnership, which is seeking to align the Partners’ future plans to deliver improved services to all the people of South Ayrshire.

  • Tackling inequalities

We are committed to tackling inequalities, so that everyone in South Ayrshire is able to realise their potential. This means tackling the barriers of poverty, remoteness, disability, racism and gender discrimination and ensuring that everyone, whatever their personal circumstances, has access to the opportunities and services that they need.

  • Being inclusive

We are committed to ensuring that there is effective and genuine engagement with people living and working in South Ayrshire in the planning and delivery of public services. This means both talking and listening to local communities to identify priorities and to ensure that local people contribute to the solutions of perceived problems.

  • Delivering Sustainability

We are committed to ensuring that a high quality of life is sustained for everyone in the area through the wise use of natural resources. This means taking account of the long-term social, economic and environmental impact of all our actions.

  • Customer focus

We are committed to developing modernised and customer centred services that streamline service delivery, increase accessibility and improve service quality for our customers.

  • Effective use of resources

We are committed to ensuring that through effective performance management arrangements, it deploys an appropriate level and quality of resources to deliver on its agreed priorities.

  • Effective service delivery

We are committed to ensuring continuous improvement in the way that it operates and delivers its services. This is will be ensured by effective service review and option appraisal processes, starting with the Fundamental Review of the Council’s budget.
