Ayrshire Farmers Market
A farmers' market is one in which farmers, growers or producers from the local area
are present in person to sell their own produce, direct to the public.
The Ayrshire Farmers Market, with the support of South Ayrshire Council, first started
to trade in 1999, and became extremely popular within a short period of time. Indeed
many traders would be sold out of produce by 10.30am! Part of the success is due
to the growing consumer interest in knowing where food comes from and how it is
produced. When you buy from a farmers market, you can talk directly to the producer,
be sure that the produce is fresh and prepared to the highest standard. You can
also be sure that the sum paid is going to the farmer / producer and not to middlemen
or on unnecessary packaging. It is important to remember that by using these venues
that you are supporting the local economy and sustaining local jobs.
Sunday Market
Car boot sales and Trading stalls. To sell at the car boot sale you just turn up
on the day. Spaces are allocated on a first come first served basis. Normally if
you turn up at 7a.m. or before, you should be able to get a space - but the earlier
you arrive the better.
Car boot sales can be fun for all the family, an opportunity to clear the junk out
of the loft. Bargain hunters should be wary. Car boot sales are often used to sell
bootleg tobacco and alcohol on which no duty has been paid. Although this may seem
a bargain, possessing the goods is an offence and could incur hefty penalties. If

Cattle Market
Safeway's supermarket (now Morrisons) was the original location of the cattle market.
The Cattle Market was moved in 1994 outside the town (on the A70 near Dobbies Garden
Centre). The current location also has a few farmers shops.
