Direct Debit is the Council’s preferred payment method and is available for monthly instalment payers.

Payment by Debit or Credit Card can be made by using the 24hr automated service by telephoning 08456 040433.
Internet Payment can be made by using our Secure Online Payments Facility
Payment by Standing Order can be made, although unlike direct debit, you would have to instruct your bank to change the payments at the beginning of every year as well as each time the liability changed.
Personal Payment can be made at any of the Council’s Offices or at any Bank.
Postal Payments should be addressed to the Assistant Chief Executive, South Ayrshire Council, P.O. Box 31, Wellington Square, Ayr, KA7 2PL.
Cheques or Postal Orders must be crossed “A/C Payee Only” and made payable to South Ayrshire Council. Only the Bank Giro Credit Slip need be sent with your payment, unless a receipt is required, in which case the complete Notice should be sent.
Bank Giro Credit - Complete the form provided and present the entire Rates Notice with payment to the Bank. (Counter charges may be levied by the banks on transactions.)
Cash or Postal Order payments should be accompanied by the complete Rates Notice.
Payment by 2 Instalments - Please retain the Rates Notice after the first payment has been made, as it will be required for the payment of the 2nd instalment.
Instalments - Rates are payable by 10 instalments (Local Government (Scotland) Act 1975 Sec 8). Payment to South Ayrshire Council can be made in 10 monthly instalments on the 7th of each month from May to February inclusive, or in 2 half yearly instalments on 30th June and 30th December.
Any person liable to pay rates for a year who has not after the expiry of 6 months (i.e. 30 September) paid an amount equal at least to the sum of 4 monthly instalments is liable to pay the rates in full for the year or, as the case may be, the balance of the year forthwith. After the expiry of 6 months should the rates payable be in arrear by not less than 2 monthly instalments then the balance of rates shall be payable forthwith.
Late or Non Payment - In terms of Section 247 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1947 a statutory addition of 10% on rates outstanding will be charged after the necessary legal steps have been taken.
