Sports Grounds

Ayr United FCFollowing the introduction of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act, 1975, many football stadia in Scotland were designated as requiring Safety Certificates, including Ayr United Football Club's Somerset Park, Ayr. In 1987 further legislation was introduced covering stands at sports grounds with accommodation for more than 500 spectators.

South Ayrshire Council is the responsible authority in respect of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975 and the Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act 1987. The Building Standards office co-ordinates this work and consequently Building Standards staff are closely involved in the technical assessment and regular site inspection of Sports Grounds and stands.
