Due to new European Legislation, there are now special arrangements in place for the disposal of fridges, freezers and fridge freezers from domestic properties.

Household collection of fridges can be requested by contacting the special uplift service.

If you can, take the unit yourself to one of the Recycling Centres. There is no charge to leave it there.

Fridge freezers intended for disposal should be free of all foodstuffs and care should be taken to ensure that the coolant pipes at the back of the units are not fractured or damaged during transit.

Remember that fly-tipping is illegal and dumped refrigerators and freezers can pose a real hazard to children or animals who may become harmed or trapped inside.

Compostable kitchen waste like tea bags, fruit and veg peelings. This can constitute up to 20% of your green bin waste.

If possible use a home-compost bin for your garden for recycling of these wastes or if you are in a food waste collection area you can also use your new food waste collection bins.

If you do not have a home-compost bin, and do not live in a food waste collection area then please use your green bin to dispose of these wastes. Alternatively you could take your vegetable and food wastes to one of the Council’s food waste recycling banks which are available at the Recycling Centres in Troon, Ayr, Maybole and Girvan.

If you wish to have furniture recycled, the main outlets at present are the charity shops, second hand furniture shops and auction houses. South Ayrshire Council is working with community groups to develop a dedicated furniture recycling/refurbishment service within South Ayrshire.
