As an Active Schools Coordinator (P) I am continually looking to find ways to offer children and young people the opportunities and motivation to adopt active, healthy lifestyles, now and into adulthood.
As well as pioneering new opportunities for activity I am also continually involved in supporting people, schools, clubs and organisations who are already delivering and coordinating sports clubs, activity sessions, curricular P.E. and health education.
My aim for the future is to see all schools within the Marr Cluster fully booked with quality lunch-time and after-school activity sessions. I am particularly keen to see these clubs engage, not only with the ‘sporty children’ but also with the pupils that find it difficult to participate within mainstream sport and P.E. sessions.
Some examples of the activities that will be on offer within the Marr Cluster during the course of 2008/09 are as follows:
- Handball after-school, lunch clubs, festivals and development squads
- ‘Kids beat the bullies’ martial arts programme
- ‘Enjoy-A-Ball’ taster sessions
- ‘Fit‘N’Funky Monkeys’ Nursery block
- After-school football, Tennis, Basketball, Golf, Netball and Handball
- ‘Fit‘N’Funky Girls-Only’ Lunch clubs
- P7-S1 Sports transition festivals
- Inclusive sports sessions
- ‘Y-Dance’ primary dance sessions
- Holiday activity programme
