Active Schools
Gareth Turner
Hi there, my name is Gareth Turner and I am the Active School Coordinator for the
Belmont Cluster Schools.
The Belmont Cluster covers eight schools these are: Alloway Primary; Braehead Primary;
Doonfoot Primary; Holmston Primary; Kincaidston Primary; Tarbolton Primary; South
Park School; and Craig Park School.
My main aim throughout each of these schools is to create a vast number of opportunities
for children to participate in a variety of physical activities. These opportunities
will be in the form of After-School Clubs, Breakfast Clubs, Playground games and
many more. Sports already confirmed to be available at these schools are Football,
Netball, Dance, Gymnastics, Cheerleading, Rugby and many more.
During these classes the children will also be educated on living a healthy lifestyle
and the sporting opportunities that it can bring. The hope is that children begin
to learn the health benefits of an "Active Life" and will take these habits learned
into adulthood.
