Active Schools

Coach Education Academy

What is it?
An educational sport qualification programme for senior students from all secondary schools within South Ayrshire Council. The course operates from October to the end of June each academic year.

How does it work?
South Ayrshire Active Schools offers an exciting sports coaching initiative for senior pupils (S5/6) across the authority known as ‘The Active Schools Coach Education Academy’. Senior students from all eight South Ayrshire secondary schools are given the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and experience of coaching young people. Once suitable students are selected, through an application and interview process, under the support and guidance of the Active Schools Team and National Governing Bodies, pupils will become qualified to coach a range of sporting activities. In turn, the newly qualified students will be given the opportunity to assist in the delivery of sports coaching within the school and community setting.

Coaching workshops

Active Schools offers a calendar of free sport/activity training workshops that run annually between October—April. The aims of the workshops are to provide a basic introduction to a variety of sports and activity-based programmes. It is our hope that workshop candidates will use the information and resources provided to encourage children and young people to be active throughout the school curriculum, extracurricular activities and community clubs.
